We are so glad that you are interested in our new Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring Program!

The Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring Program is designed to facilitate mentoring relationships between junior or new ISMMS Faculty and established ISMMS Faculty members. Developed by the Office of Faculty Development in partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations, this easy-to-use platform was created to help Faculty in need of mentoring both identify and connect with established Faculty who can help them achieve their career goals. Faculty can use the platform to identify mentors for their formal mentoring committee or identify individual mentors for specific career mentoring needs.

Mentorship is critical for helping junior Faculty obtain funding and advance in their careers. It also helps establish a culture of caring and workplace well-being for Faculty. Successful Faculty also further cement Mount Sinai’s reputation for excellence in education, research, and clinical practice. To our Faculty who are willing to serve as Mentors: thank you for your support of this program and your colleagues, and for your service to the broader Mount Sinai community.

To our Faculty who are searching for mentorship: thank you for recognizing the importance of mentorship and for your willingness to participate in this program.

How It Works

  • This program is open to all Faculty members with a current appointment at ISMMS (part-time or full-time). If you leave ISMMS, you will no longer be eligible to participate as a Mentor or Mentee in this program.
  • Both Mentors and Mentees must first register by creating a profile, a process that takes 10 to 15 minutes. You can update your registration information at any time.
  • After your profile is completed and your registration is approved by the OFD (approval typically takes <1 week), you will receive notifications within the platform to advise you of next steps.
  • Approved registrants will be automatically matched with three suggested Mentors. Upon logging into the platform after a registration is approved, the Mentee will be able to browse the profiles of the three suggested Mentors and request a formal connection with any of the three Mentors, if desired. Matches will be suggested without regard for department or system site.
  • All approved registrants can also search all completed profiles to identify potential Mentors according to criteria specified by the Mentee. This Search function can be used if the Mentee does not feel the suggested matches are optimal or to identify additional Mentors.
  • Up to three Mentors may be requested through this platform.
  • Mentors remain offline until they accept a connection with a Mentee. Once a connection is mutually established, the Mentee then reaches out to the Mentor(s) to set a mutually acceptable time and date for the first meeting.
  • The system will prompt the Faculty Mentee to complete a Faculty Development Plan for the first meeting to facilitate discussion of career goals and plans. The system will continue to remind Mentees to set up meetings with their Mentors at least three times the first year, and at least twice per year afterwards. Faculty Development Plan templates will be provided for these meetings.
